Why I'm Taking This Class

1. Family. I'm the youngest of four siblings in a family with a healthy "wine culture." Everything I know about wine I've learned from my older sisters and parents, all of whom are passionate about wine and curious about the industry, but none of whom have had the opportunity to formally study it. They fostered my love of wine and now I'm eager to be able to share my experience from this class with them. My learning is their learning.

2. Consumer product strategy. Broadly speaking, I'm looking forward to the consumer products strategy elements of the course - wine is a medium through which we can study complex regulatory environments, brand management, family business dynamics, distribution strategies and supply chain optimization. Although I will likely re-enter the healthcare industry post-GSB, I know that several of the most impactful solutions have been derived from insights transported from other industries, and I look forward to drawing parallels where applicable.

3. Practicioner-led. Further, I'm particularly drawn to courses at the GSB that are taught by active operators, and am eager to hear more anecdotes from Alyssa's experiences as an entrepreneur, advisor to investment firms, and now PE-backed healthcare CEO.

4. GMIX. I'm interested in pursuing a GMIX at a winery abroad next summer, and hope the course will serve as a foundation from which I can continue learning and create value over the course of a four week project.
